Online Therapy - Will it Work for Me?

Therapy via video conferencing offers you a flexible way to participate in counselling or couples therapy at this challenging time.
Online counselling, either as an individual or as a couple, is an effective way of connecting and working through difficult issues. My clients have found the experience to be a powerful way of relating and for many, just as valuable as our previous face to face sessions. All sessions are encrypted, guaranteeing confidentially.

To optimise the effectiveness of our sessions:

  • I recommend that you close or quit other programs on your device prior to opening Zoom or your browser, to avoid interruptions.
  • Occasionally we may need to have the consultation by phone (or combination -screen and phone if the internet bandwidth is not adequate).
  • Ensure that you have a private comfortable place to sit or stand, preferably about a metre from your camera.
  • Please locate your device so the camera is on a firm surface and your face and upper shoulders are in view.
  • It is helpful to have enough light shining on your face so we can see each other clearly
  • If you have not Zoomed before, maybe practice it with a friend or family member prior to our meeting.

Online therapy appointments are easy

Right now I am using Zoom Video conferencing:

  • For access to your appointment, I will send you an email/ Zoom invitation on the day or the evening before.
  • About ten minutes before our appointment time, please click on the link in the invitation or enter the Zoom meeting ID and password to join the meeting. You will then have time to check your audio and video settings.
  • If you have a Mac you may find my Zoom invitation already in your calendar.
  • If you have not used Zoom previously, clicking on the link will prompt a free download of Zoom automatically- or if you prefer you can run it from your browser.
  • At the time of our online therapy appointment I will start my video and audio and be waiting to see you.

Prior to your first online counselling appointment

  • When I send you the confirmation of our first appointment, I will include payment details, the client agreement and consent forms.
  • If you have any questions or concerns about Online Therapy with me, please contact me at least a day prior to our session.

My top priority is ensuring that you are able to access your ongoing therapy.
